20th June

Gnome came too.

The B&B

Barn next door

This is the Rhine

No radio possible in this valey as there are so many overhead power lines running parallel to the route.

We went around a bend and came across this old covered bridge.

The canyon walls were pretty steep in parts.

Wild Strawberries.... Dom's stomach has found a source of food!

Every village seem to have these water fountains.

Gnome and friend

The campsite... there is snow on the hills behind it... and this is June (Summer) and we had almost no cold weather kit!

The tent.... well the campsite had had an aniversary party the night before and the site 'trash' had lots of cardboard boxes and christine went and grabbed loads and covered the whole base of the tent and even up the side a bit with multiple layers to make the tent a bit warmer.

We had no idea what to expect so all the guys went out.

The campsite told us to use one of the marquee tents to eat etc and even put a vase of flowers on the table.

Did not make it warmer though!

Andrex loo roll came in very handy....

20th June
Lazy start after a really nice, but expensive night in a newish B&B (Francis and wife only bought the place 8 weeks ago and had been open 4 weeks). The omens for the day were not great as Christine fell over on a gravel up and duffed her knee in. It was drippiy droppy rain wise up util lunch, bvut felt more like October than June.
We made it to Illanz after crossing and recrossing the Rhein over some amazing bridges some photos of some of them and then had an amazing lunch. It being Sunday the only signs of life were church bells and the sounds of people firing but saw almost noone. Glad the cafe was open. After pizza and a sort of ham and cheese toastie but a swiss variety of hawaii toastie then it started to rain harder than when we started anyway.
We then had the climb up to Carrera (must check spelling) to complete. Easy after the Oberalppass but still hard as this time had all the weight and in the rain. My bike chain came off and seem to be having gear problems....Camp site at the top.
When tried to boil water the fuel I had bought was, well rubbish.... So some bartering with the camp site and managed to secure some ratty 'benzin' or leaded petrol and made some hot drinks.
Mileage today says 45.582 (that includes the 25 miles yesterday). Basically just killing time getting to Chur. A solid 5 hours cycling should see us achieve 50 miles
